Ramblings

March 7, 2012 By Jacqueline Briggs Martin

The biggest "ramble" of my recent days was a trip to Chicago to attend the Associated Writing Programs conference last week and do a panel presentation with Phyllis Root, Franny Billingsley, and Christine Heppermann. We had a great time, thanks to a wonderful student from the Art Institute of Chicago, who--at the … [Read more...] about Ramblings

What Poetry Makes Happen

February 14, 2012 By Jacqueline Briggs Martin

Winter Gifts

February 6, 2012 By Jacqueline Briggs Martin

A hibiscus flower

We are trying to keep a hibiscus plant from last summer alive inside our dry, not-very-bright house this winter. Today's the last day, so suitcase packing might be a good idea, but I could not let this date pass without some acknowledgment of the birthday of a great American. And … [Read more...] about Martin Luther King’s Birthday

Beginning With a Picture

December 30, 2011 By Jacqueline Briggs Martin

Old Photograph

On this next to the last day of 2011, almost the end of the year, I want to add one more voice in the series on beginnings. We've listened to people who begin with research, who begin with doodling around, who begin in their heads and don't write until they know a good portion of the story. Today's guest -- Anne … [Read more...] about Beginning With a Picture

A Wonderful Pizzazz Afternoon

Sidekick Coffee and Books knows how to throw a book party. Yesterday’s Kidlit Pizzazz Festival was a wonderful time of yummy warm drinks–or ice cream, Dog Man!, so many beautiful children’s books, and authors! There is worry that kids are not reading as much now as in earlier times. I was heartened by yesterday’s event. […]
