About the Book
Bizzy Bones and Moosemouse is the story of Bizzy’s overnights with Uncle Ezra’s friend Moosemouse, a loud and boistrous mouse whose home smells like bugs and bad potatoes to Bizzy. They do get to be friends but not before Bizzy has a scare and gets soaked in a rainstorm.
My family and I have spent quite a few nights camping and also have been soaked in rainstorms. I remembered this when I was writing Bizzy Bones and Moosemouse.
Curriculum
One thing we like to take when we go camping is our own cereal that we call “Log Cabin” Granola. We think it’s as good as Moosemouse’s Buttercup Soup.
Here is the recipe:
Log Cabin Granola
- 6 cups roller oats
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup wheat germ
- 1 cup wheat bran or oat bran
- 1 cup coconut
- sesame seeds (optional)
- Stir together dry ingredients.
Mix:
- 1 cup oil
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tsp. vanilla
Stir into dry ingredients. Bake at 250 for 35-45 minutes or until the mixture browns. Stir occasionally while baking. Store in an airtight container.
It’s good with milk at home or in the woods. It is also good just as a snack when you are driving down the road or hungry in the kitchen.
