Central Park in Oxford Junction, Jones County, Iowa, is a beautiful spot with prairie, woods, a man-made lake, and lots of trails. Michele Olson is a naturalist on staff there, tasked with developing in kids an appreciation for nature. She is dedicated and effective. And, as part of her job, she has set up a story walk for Begin with a Bee.
Each page of the book is mounted on a stand specially made for story walks. (There are so many story walks around the country that a company in Wisconsin survives by manufacturing these stands. That’s a piece of good news!) And the stands are placed on a trail leading through the woods. It’s such a lovely way to share our story.
Visiting this park, walking the story walk, enjoying the prairie would be a wonderful trip for an August afternoon. Take your swim suits! There’s a beach, too!
